
Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents may be able to sponsor the following family members:
- Mother and father
- Grandmother and grandfather
- Husband, wife, or partner in a long-term relationship
- Child who relies on financial support
- Offspring of one’s children*
- Son or daughter of one’s sibling
- Sibling or half-sibling

What do you need to sponsor a family member?
- You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident aged 18 or older.
- You need to sign both an agreement and an undertaking.
- Your income must fall below the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO).
- You must meet the sponsorship requirements.
Note: There are a few exceptions to these criteria.
What are the types of spousal relationship?
Spouse
- A marriage needs to be supported by an official certificate to be considered valid.
- It must also adhere to the legal requirements of both Canada and the jurisdiction where the marriage took place
Common-Law Partner
- In order to be eligible, the couple must have cohabitated in a relationship akin to marriage for a minimum of 12 months.
- This can be substantiated by providing evidence such as shared financial accounts, rental agreements, legal documents, utility bills, photographs, and other relevant documentation.
Conjugal Partner
- Instances such as troubled marriages stemming from immigration obstacles or legal restrictions in certain countries.
- Despite their strong dedication akin to that of a marriage, external circumstances prevent the couple from residing together.
